Comment from the channel 7 talk show "Mudda"

Two comments that really struck me that how can someone think in such a way...
First was
"App hote kaun hai najma ka theka lane wale"
... I forgot the name of the guy but he was a politician.
Second was
"Tali kabhi ek hath se nahi bajti, per zyada galti aurto ke hi hoti hai"
someone from the audience
(and then there was a classic statement that never fail to outrage me)
"Rape unhi ladkiyo ke hote hai jo kam kapde phanti hai."
again someone from the audience

This episode was discussing a how can there be "sabhy samaj" (especially related to Muslim society) An interstice fact there was only one female in the audience.
I will not say anything to the last comment cause that is just a peace of bullshit and so is the second one.

Now lets look at the first statement coming from a politician (elected by the people of the country called India) who represents one of the minorities(Muslim). The context of the statement... to refresh your memory it was about the case when a man and his wife wanted to stay together even after one of the members of the guys family raped the wife which is wrong because the wife has become haram.(I totally don't buy that is actually true according to Islam I will have to cross check this) And the girl went to the court asking to stay with her husband. And this Mr. Politician has the guts to say that who are you(court or anyone else) to stand against the fatwa that was issued that this two cannot say together. Is it just me or is there someone else who thinks that the leadership of this country has gone down the drains. If this comment was by some random XYZ I would maybe let it pass... but a educated(supposedly) leader that is suppose to uplift the society that is a very much a part of this country is saying as if he is running some random kingdom of his own and that to taking them backwards. And ofcourse people support these kind of people.

Somebody should issue a fatwa to kill such politicians. Actually a fatwa is only an opinioin or advise without any legal binding but certain conservative forces choose to cling to them to serve vested interests.
The other two comments are the the most savage statements made by those who reduce women to bodies meant for pleasure and men to animals who have no rational control on their actions once they see a flash of skin.
Such perverse opinion expressed on a public forum by a politician proves that instead of depending on them to lead us we should try to replace them and may be even be prepared to take their places. Yes politics is dirty because dirty men like these run the show.

the ammount of clothes u wear has almost next to nothing relevance to being raped. if such was the case then rape cases in villages and other countries where women are fully covered would be none or almost none. check ur stats and open up ur mind.

arzOON you have got a perverse view on things. People like you have a tendency to blame a victim and defend the perpetretor.
A man who has to rape a girl just because she is wearing a skirt i no man but a beast.
As shobna says check the stats and open your mind.
Rape is never about sexual gratification what pleasure can you derive out of intercourse when one partner is trying her best to stop you? Only savages would call rape a product of lust.
Rape is about power. A rapist by forcing himself on the victim feels powerful may be like Supermen. This is the perverse motivation.
And by the way raping a woman is no proof of virility but its otherwise. You need to rape a woman because you are not worthy of her otherwise.

the last2 statements are maybe not as important as the first one, for the only reason that the first one was made by a powerful person. He is a person who can propose and get bills passed. But then he weilds this power because
a) he was elected by people who believe in the last 2 statements
b) This is the last issue on people's minds in a country like India.

The politician is simply trying to get votes by pandering to the massess who have blind-faith (because most of them cant afford anything more than blind faith). The media is probably being neutral and showing these comments on TV. But should it be doing so. Many men probably heard this buffoon talk and nodded their heads in agreement. They are trying to make money in a way by playing to the gallery again. All of this neatly ties into Noam Chomsky's theory about 'power' being the source of most aggression 'men/societies/governments' partake in.

Many guys take shelter behind the last statement. And thats partly becuase our society doe not let guys and girls mix and explore themselves. Bertrand Russell in 'Marriage and Morals' cites this as a source of in-built tension, aggravated by other sources of failure (plenty in our middle-class society). We dont have to make our towns orgy centers. But the restrictions we pose on ourselves is a bit too much. Anyways its baloney. You cant say she looks good lemme go rape her. You dont say I like that pair of shoes lemme go break into that store and take it. Well maybe these guys would if there wasnt security to stop them. Clearly women are the weaker sex (physically) and sadly, they pay the price for it.

hmmmm ... I was in a mood to write something soo I guess i kept in blaberring. Good to see you back in action Shobhna :) Hey I started reading 'Argumentative Indian too'. Got through thr 1st 2 chapters. Sen rocks !! very clear thoughts and well written, i must say. Shines new light on the Gita and more of ancient India. I wonder if you had a chance to lay your hands on the 'clash of civilizations'. I think its an important book in terms of how the world is getting polarized these days.

:)

Yeah Sen does rocks but it takes time to read this book.... in between i started reading The monk who sold his ferrari that is a good book too... though i don't think as well written but sums up the common sense that is so uncommon. once i finish that i will get back to the Argumentative Indian. then the next will be clash of civilisations.

btw worthwhile input :)
